The GTA’s mission is to promote and protect the UK gun trade and it carries out this remit at all levels, from representation at Government to day-to-day queries with Firearms Licensing Officers and local authorities.

Close and regular contact with our two insurance brokers has allowed them to tailor packages to the specialist needs of our Members. Jelf and BESSO Limited are experts in this field and operate special schemes for GTA Members.
The GTA has regular contact with the management of Parcelforce and works to ensure the safe carriage of firearms by Registered Firearms Dealers throughout the UK. Members of the GTA benefit from special rates when setting up an account with Parcelforce.

The GTA is contracted to receive lists of lost or stolen firearms (and certificates) from the NPIA. Members are encouraged to contact the office by telephone or email in order that we may check the status of a firearm for them.
The GTA maintains close contact with the Firearms Licensing Departments and publishes a list of contact details as a service to members.
The GTA is a council member of BSSC (the umbrella body for the defence of shooting sports in the UK), and attends meetings devoted to matters such as: primary legislation, firearms licensing, temporary 11.6 permits, calibres, conditions on Certificates, antiques, non-toxic shot issues, proposed new certification process etc.

The GTA attends the plenary sessions of the World Forum during IWA every year, joins other meetings and takes an active role in the ongoing UN Arms Trade Treaty.
The GTA is a Member of this European Association and takes an active role in European Firearms issues.
The GTA has close contact, and liaison, with all the below official bodies. This contact enables the Association to offer its Members advice, guidance and support.
The GTA is in constant touch with the Home Office on firearms licensing matters and is able to negotiate issues on Members’ behalf.
The GTA has permanent links with MPs and Members of the House of Lords and regularly lobbies Parliamentarians on behalf of its Members.
The GTA plays an active role in defending its Members on licensing matters and deals with local Firearms Licensing Managers on a daily basis.
The GTA works closely with the Proof Authorities and is in regular touch with both the London and Birmingham Proof Masters.
The GTA is a Member of the Scottish Government’s Firearms Consultative Panel which is currently addressing the issue of Firearms Licensing for Low-Powered Air Weapons in Scotland.
The GTA is a Member of the Government’s BIS Export Control Advisory Committee (ECAC) and assists in both policy and individual licensing situations. We are pleased to offer advice to members on the export of firearms from the UK.
The GTA liaises with both the BIS and HM Revenue & Customs on behalf of its Members on the importation of firearms.
The GTA, along with its partners in the BSSC, is actively involved with the HSE on such issues as the transport of dangerous goods and the manufacture and storage of explosives regulations (MSER).
The GTA has contact with Defra and was a member of the Government’s ‘Lead Ammunition Group’.
